I would like to try some different gnome themes from gnome-look.org. To do that, I first installed the User Themes extension: https://software.opensuse.org/package/gnome-shell-extension-user-theme
But when I open Tweaks the user theme extension remains disabled, with a black triangle next to it, even though the extension is installed. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi
You have to download themes, extract and move to a ~/.themes directory, are you doing this?
See https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/539719-Installing-themes
Thanks for replying, Malcolm. Yes, I’ve saved a couple of extracted theme folders in .themes but the user themes extension button remains disabled in Tweaks.
Hi
Can you check in ~.themes that the directory depth isn’t two, I have found when extracting the tarballs the are an extra depth down eg ~.themes/dir1/dir2 instead of just ~.themes/dir1.
In the Tweak Tool the themes extension has been enabled?
Can you link to one you have tried?
The theme directory is just one level down. Here’s a link to the them I tried to install: https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1013030/
In the Tweak Tool the themes extension has been enabled?
That’s the problem–it’s disabled and I can’t enable it even though I installed User Themes.
Hi
So all the gnome integration installed in your browser? This shows extensions installed Installed Extensions - GNOME Shell Extensions
If you press ALT+F2 <enter> lg <press enter> this starts Looking Glass, top right extension tab, does it show errors? To exit Looking Glass press the esc key
Thanks, Malcolm. There was an error icon next to “user themes” in https://extensions.gnome.org/local/
When I clicked on the error icon it appears that “user themes” was re-installed. Now “user themes” is enabled in Tweaks. Now I’ll see if I can install a new theme…
I installed the nice arc theme–thanks again for your help, Malcolm.
