Usb tethering Android -> Tumbleweed

Does it work for anybody with recent a recent TW version?

It used to work on my machine some time ago, now it doesn’t anymore. Same phone, same laptop.

I can see the phone with lsusb (samsung … tethering mode), but in networkmanager nothing shows up. ‘ip a’ doesn’t show an interaface, nothing in syslog that would point towards networking. It sees the phone being there as an usb device and runs ‘mtp-probe’. That’s all.

I tried a different linux distro and that kinda-sorta works, but a bit flaky.

The forum search function really does work quite well.

With the right buzz-words, yes.

Thanks for adding the link.

For posterity:

currently this doesn’t work right after adding provided info. It’s not stable and the network connection acts weird.

For now a mobile hotspot seems better (and works).

I checked again and phones that did work with RNDIS_HOST still work with current Tumbleweed (20241005). Maybe your phone has other problems or the USB cable is flaky.

I can ping, but won’t get data back from a lot of websites. DNS works.

It’s weird.

Just for info, Android phone usb tethering works fine on leap 15.6 for samsung galaxy.
