USB storage auto-mount problem

Hello!

I’ve installed openSUSE 11.1 recently and have problems with USB storage devices.

I’m using KDE 4.1.

When I plug a USB flash stick or an external USB hdd, it is detected by system, but isn’t mounted (i.e. it’s displayed at sysinfo:/ page, but without mountpoint). It seems that the effect doesn’t depend upon a filesystem: I have tried a FAT32 usb stick and an NTFS external HDD.

When I try to mount them manually, everything works.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to make automatic mount work properly?

Have a read of these threads:

As you can see, it is a deliberate design policy for KDE4, but not one that many users prefer. It all comes down to how you wish to be notified about removable devices, and whether they should be automounted. KDE3 and Gnome users haven’t had to concern themselves with this issue. I’m interested in other users comments about this…
