USB how to turn off write protection

Hello,

By using this tutorial I’ve create PenDrive USB with LiveCD. I would like to modify it a bit. Unfortunately when I’m mounting it I receive fallowing message:

linux-n7at:/home/starach # mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt                                 
mount: warning: /mnt seems to be mounted read-only.

How can I turn it off so I could modify my pendrive contents.

I believe this is an ISO image and thus can not be modified. You could use the build service to produce a custom ISO image.

Isn’t there any easier way like hacking the ISO image to remove write-protection instead of using this weird build service? :wink:

I really can’t get a hold on to it.

I guess you could extract the files from the ISO and modify and make a new ISO but sounds harder to me.

some pen drives have a tiny little bit of plastic on one side that you
can slide back and forth to either a read-only or read-write position…

not all have that…and, the earlier poster may be correct…if you
have a read only iso image you can not write to it, BUT…if you
followed the instructions to have both the read-only iso AND a
read-write partition…THEN that little slide switch will be useful…

on the other hand, if you really wanna change the iso image, you need
to do that before you dd it to the stick…(i think)
