I try in my notebbok and my home machine, and the same results.

Anybody help-me?

I also have this problem. I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ5 digital camera that works fine in every other linux distribution, but i’m unable to access it under OpenSUSE 11 (KDE 3.5). It is set to “PC mode”, the OS should see the SD card in the camera as standard “usb mass storage device”, in other distributions it is automatically mounted as /media/disk1.

When I connect my camera the standard “what to do” KDE window pops up. If I select Open in new window, it tries to open system:/media/camera in konqueror. After a few seconds I get the following error message: Unknown error code:50, Unspecified error. There is no camera folder under /media, neither any other entry for the SD card of the camera. I can’t even see any device for it in /dev.

I tried accessing my camera with digikam to no avail, it gives me “Failed to connect to the camera. Please make sure it is connected properly and turned on” error message.

Any ideas? How could I tell the system to access my camera as a standard mass storage device (like a flash/pendrive) and not as a digital camera?

Hi,
I have the same problem with my Panasonic DMC-FX50: It worked with Suse 10.3, after upgrading to 11.0
it is not reachable. The USB system identifies it correctly.
Certainly, others have the same problem.

hi,

i have the same problem with Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 after suse 10.3 to 11.00 upgrade. did anybody found a solution?

There is a thread here … not sure if it is related, but maybe it might help some users:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/209483

I had the exact same problem on KDE with Archlinux, and have it with opensuse 11. My camera is a Panasonic DMC-FZ5. In both cases, the problem is (partially) solved by removing the kamera package. After that, camera can be accessed as a simple removable medium from Konqueror with the presence of two media icons instead of one (just ignore the second camera icon). Hope this helps.

So it seems to be a problem with KDE camera protocol.

Yesterday I was able to use my FZ-5 camera. I switched USB mode to PTP from PC and I could access the pictures with konqueror (but i could not delete them). The strange thing is: I also tried PTP mode earlier and it didn’t work/help, no idea why it worked now.

I’ll also try removing the kamera package suggested in the above post.

As a curious observer to this thread, what is the “kamera package”? Do you mean digikam?

It is “kdegraphics3-kamera” package. After removing it my Panasonic FZ-5 camera in “PC mode” is recognized again as mass storage device and automatically mounted under /media/diskX

Uninstalling the kamera package works like a dream. Thanks a lot for the help.

I am using Suse 11.0 with the latest patches.
