Upgrading Java

I’ve tried every youtube tutorial and maybe every other tutorial on the web and some of them I just don’t get, I’ve managed to get as far as getting a folder to appear in my downloads folder called jre1.6.0_21 using some commands in the terminal. But I have no idea what to do next. Because when i go to the Java site to verify my version it gives me.

**Oops! You don’t have the recommended Java installed.
Your Java version is Version 6 Update 18. Please click the button below to get the recommended Java for your computer.

NOTE: If you recently completed your Java software installation, you may need to restart your browser (close all browser windows and re-open) before verifying your installation. **

Anyone have any idea what to do? thanks

forget following youtubes, use YaST > Software > Software
management…search on java and install the SUN java and plug
in…uninstall the “ice tea” java…

read OUR documents, instructions, wiki, forum before you try stuff
made by some unknown ‘guru’ who may be giving great info for the two
year old version of openSUSE or for Debian, Red Hat etc etc etc…
