I am still running Leap 15.6 but have just completed running the migration tool. It tells me that dry run completed, feel free to continue. Give me a clue. To continue what?
I have no idea if it all worked but I did rebuild database before I started as I had no idea of the vintage of what was on the machine and had no errors or issues whatsoever. Does this mean that when I reboot I will be on Leap 16.0?
I also noted that the migration tool offered Leap 16.0 and 16.1. Being cautious I opted for 16.0. At what point is upgrading to 16.1 a good idea and how is this upgrade done now?
Looking at the openSUSE Roadmap, Leap 16.1 is planned to be GA in October 2026: <Leap 16.1>
The “dry run” is just that – it only checks if, everything seems to be OK.
If it checked OK then, simply continue and allow the upgrade to proceed.
Re-booting was fine but now I cannot log in. It accepts my pw but then retruns me to the login again. I recall something like this a while ago but cannot find the thread. The machine was indicating plasma Wayland so I tried switching to X11. The login then appeared to proceed but stalled with nothing happening. On these machines I have AMD display cards.
Maybe leap-15-5-freezing-and-now-i-cannot-even-log-in?
Possibly a custom theme that didn’t migrate from Plasma 5 to Plasma 6?
Or anyway some 15.6 leftover? Try to switch to a virtual console (CTRL+ALT+F4 for instance) and see if you can login there to recover some diagnostics.
There have been a few complications for me because each machine has been different eg Leap 15.6 and TW. Also I am not sure upgrades are treated the same as fresh installs with regard to SELinux but the tools worked fine. The only thing I have found is to make sure the repos are all installed correctly with correct priority and old stuff removed before you reboot.
