update kernel 3.8.0-28 broken VirtualBox

yesterday update my tumbleweed and after that virtualbox is broken
how can i prevent this in the futher?

for now i can’t see a virtualbox that match with kernel 3.8.0-28.
and why can i not go back to kernel 3.7.9 that i had last week?

the easiest way to prevent this is to not use Tumbleweed, which is
exactly what this is saying:

When you should keep staying at stable release

At this point there is no guarantee to have all additional modules
available in the stable release like for Vmware or Virtualbox. And
while the Packman Tumbleweed Essential repository attempts to deliver
them there is no guarantee they will always succeed due to the
incompatibilities with the quickly advancing Linux Kernel. The
problems with proprietary Graphics drivers are similar and there is
no guarantee they will work tomorrow, even if they do today. If you
don’t know how to compile your own additional kernel modules and you
don’t wish to learn or keep a very close eye on what is being
updated, please don’t use Tumbleweed.

so, to continue to use Tumbleweed with a smile it will be necessary
to always check to see if a new kernel is being applied and take all
steps necessary to build a new VM to match the new kernel or don’t
install the kernel…

this is not gonna change anytime soon…

First of all, roll back to the standard kernel of 12.2 with YaST and reboot.

Then read this:
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Keep_multiple_kernel_versions

Then, as you have a backup, wait for the next kernel to try it out

I’ve been in situations with bad kernels and back in the day I learned
to always have a good one saved for the rainy day…

Tumbleweed is “Factory on barbiturates” so precautions are important
with it.

A quote from the link above:
“Warning This feature should only be used by experienced users.”

Apparently you are one since you run TW

openSUSE 12.2 (i586) 3.4.11-2.16-desktop in EeePC 900

thx, i don’t want to go to the standard kernel, now from opensuse 12.2
why, i don’t know, probaly want to live on the edge…
i think i will set up to keep two kernels

or lock the kernel to update in yast is also a solution and see it manualy if it should work.
