Unable to mount USB drives since Tumbleweed Snapshot 20230927

I hope this is posted in the appropriate category.

After upgrading to Snapshot 20230927 I found I couldn’t mount USB hard drives if they are formatted vfat, although others formatted ext4 were mounted happily. I swapped cables etc., but to no avail. When I rolled back to the previous snapshot all was well again, so it doesn’t seem to be a hardware issue; also several drives were behaving in the same way. None are new, I’ve been using them for backups etc regularly.

This morning I upgraded to Snapshot 20230929 and the problem returned.
lsmod | grep usb shows that module usb_storage is loaded.
I ran dmesg but wasn’t able to capture the whole output, but the relevant part referring to the Verbatim seems to be this:

While the machine was obviously struggling to mount the drive, the desktop (KDE) became locked. In the end I pulled the connecting cable out, and KDE breathed a sigh of relief and carried on working.

Anyone else having this issue? I’ve currently no idea where to go from here, any suggestions welcome.

Thank you.

I’ve discovered this old post which seems to describe a very similar problem:

https://forums.opensuse.org/t/cant-mount-usb-drive/148964/5

There was an update to udisk to version 2.10.0-1.1 in Snapshot 20230927. Rolling back has given me version 2.9.4-6.5, so I’ve locked that for the time being and will see if anything changes in the next few days.
