Unable to install Tumbleweed on new computer

I bought a new computer (Asus NUC 14 Performance NUC14SRKU7 Intel Core Ultra 7 155H NVIDIA RTX 4060 Mini PC), but I can’t install opensuse Tumbleweed on it.
The installation stops when the actual installation should start. I have downloaded the latest iso file from the opensuse website.

Installing Linux Mint ok.

Did you check the signature? You should provide further details.

A very basic question, but it has to be asked. Did you do a checksum on the downloaded installation media?

@raijar since it has a new Nvidia gpu add the nomodeset boot option.

I have tested the installation with the following sw packages: Leap 15.6, Leap 16.0 and Tumleweed but the installation is not successful.
I have come to the same conclusion, that the hw is too (sic) new.

But how do I add the nomodeset boot option?

The kernel command line:

Instead of the mentioned “3”, add “nomodeset”.

I can’t INSTALL opensuse (or any version of it) on a new computer.
The e-command doesn’t open the menu shown in the picture.
I don’t know how to proceed from here, because I have successfully installed Linux Mint on my new computer, so my new computer is not broken.

Should I file a bug report for this?

As you can see in the lower part of the screenshot, you need to hit “e” when in the grub2 loading screen (where you choose to install Tumblweed).

You do not even reach the grub2 screen?

Yep. I had same experience with Nvidia. The nomodeset solved it for me, and installation continued.

What’s really wrong with this?! Why can’t I get the opensuse installation to work as well as it does in linux mint. This is the second time I’ve been struggling with opensuse on new hardware.
Is it possible to directly patch the files in the installation media without having to mess with boot? That would be much easier for me.

It was already explained quite often in several threads, that Nouveau does not support really new Nvidia hardware. That is why you have to add the nomodeset kernel option to install the OS and install the Nvidia drivers afterwards. Nvidia drivers can not be part of the installer yet (maybe in the future when all legacy drivers are gone and only the open drivers are available).

It takes 5 seconds to perform the above described steps and you will be able to install Tumbleweed/Leap/Slowroll/whatever you want.

I understand this, but how do I set the nomodeset parameter? That’s the problem here.
Please give me instructions so I can execute them.
When I give the e-command, nothing appears on the screen where I can set the nomodeset parameter.

@raijar Take a photo of what you see…

Here is the photo.

@raijar ok, so use the arrow keys to get to the line starting linux, press the end key and add nomodeset after the splash=silent, eg splash=silent nomodeset then press the F10 key to boot

This procedure was described in the link i posted…

Thank all of you who helped me!
I write this with the new computer.

Installation is succesfull but the display is 800x600 and that is the only setting.
This configuration works so and so. But if I try to use Google traslator it writes the from right to left and of course the result is not finnish and not english
So I cannot use it. Please, try to understand my poor english.

I copied my whole home directory from old computer to this new one but not all configurations didn’t move from old one to new one.

Work continues :grinning:

Display is now OK.

I was too happy. When I booted the computer, the screen resolution went back to 800x600. And I haven’t been able to set it to 1920x1080 even for a moment.
How long do I have to wait for a fix for this? I read somewhere that this is an old bug…
