G´day! Have a ASUS F550E laptop and it won´t recognise the the OpenSuSE 13.1 DVD. A check of the boot options mentions
Path to boot option: Style: fsx:\path\filename.efi What does this mean and how do I (a) get the laptop to read the DVD and (b) install OpenSUSE 13.1? :X
How did you burn the DVD? You must do a iso image burn not just copy the file to the DVD
I assume this is a EFI based BIOS so if above was done you need to boot the DVD in EFI mode to do the install
Also before burning did you check the check sum of the ISO image? It must match the published values on a link from the download page you got the image from
The OpenSUSE 13.1 is a functional DVD from LinuxFormat - been checked on an earlier laptop and loads without an issues.
The laptop with Windows 8.1 installed is a new unit and has UEFI installed.
As mentioned earlier the ASUS F550E laptop just doesn´t ¨see¨ the OpenSUSE 13.1 DVD. Can´t get to step 1!
It appears to me that code is needed to get the ASUS F550E to mount the DVD and read a EFI file, and that is what I´m seeking assistance for.
:shame:
Sorry never heard of anything like that.
It is possible that the DVD is not readable on that DVD drive. Small miss alignments can effect the read
Did you make sure that the DVD is in the boot order of the BIOS? Does any other DVD boot?
If the DVD is not seen at boot it is a mechanical or BIOS problem.
The drive handles other than live dvds OK, so it´s not a CD/DVD drive issue.
The DVD works fine on a ASUS K52F series 64 bit laptop.
A check of the ASUS F550E laptop boot options mentions Path to boot option: Style: fsx\path\filename.efi
To me this is a means of making it more difficult to install another OS to this type of laptop, just another challenge!
What is the command line to mount the DVD drive, and what is the \path\ and the \filename.efi ??
