Hi all,
I recently had a large software update and immediately after the desktop started acting funny. I first noticed that I could not use dolphin. I used the command:
dbus-launch dolphin
and I got dolphin working. I restarted the computer and all the icons are missing from the desktop. Instead I’m greeted by this error:
Unable to create io-slave. klauncher said: Error loading '/usr/lib64/qt5/plugins/kf5/kio/trash.so
I suspect I just need to update or reinstall kio, but don’t know the code for that. I cannot use the update manager, it thinks I’m offline.
I cannot do anything through Yast, it won’t open after I click on the “software packages”. Also having trouble opening any libre office documents.
I’m sort of dead in the water here. Can anyone help!?
Let me know if you need more info.

well all your repo’s look fine
your issues suggest a system issue I’d suggest re-running
zypper up
to check if your system is fully updated
after updating your system if the issues persist try running yast2 in a terminal and see the output

I cannot update. Here is the error message when I attempt to run zypper up:
zypper: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/libproxy.so.1: undefined symbol: _ZN9libmodman14module_manager8load_dirENSt
7__cxx1112basic_stringIcSt11char_traitsIcESaIcEEEb

wow I was looking for repo mismatch but I missed that LEAP 15 repo
as you say the OP has a mixture of LEAP 15 and 42.3 if the OP wishes to stay on 42.3 I’d suggest removing repo #3 (IMO he doesn’t need to disable the extra repo’s) and run zypper dup against the 42.3 update repo
zypper rr 3
zypper dup --from openSUSE-Leap-42.3-Update
after that reboot and redo a vendor change to packman so the multimedia works again
but if zypper is fubar get the install dvd and do an “upgrade”
ps. I changed the thread title as this as the OP probobly made an error and wanted to say io slave not iso slave
Yep, I knew that’s what you were looking for and realized you somehow missed it.lol!
Thanks guys, but the problem is not entirely fixed. I tried just removing repo 5, but when attempting to update I was greeted by this error:
zypper: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/libproxy.so.1: undefined symbol: _ZN9libmodman14module_manager8load_dirENSt
7__cxx1112basic_stringIcSt11char_traitsIcESaIcEEEb
So I disabled the other repos, then ran zypper dup again. Again I get the same error:
zypper: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/libproxy.so.1: undefined symbol: _ZN9libmodman14module_manager8load_dirENSt
7__cxx1112basic_stringIcSt11char_traitsIcESaIcEEEb
Any ideas how to proceed?
Just as a pre-emptive measure, I’ll list the new repo report:

As I_A suggested,
but if zypper is fubar get the install dvd and do an “upgrade”
You need to go to the install DVD, instead of choosing the Install option, choose the Upgrade option.
After, renew your Packman switch in the Yast
Software module (or with zypper, if you know how), then follow up with
zypper up

Ahh, ok. I understand. I can do a USB install, as I don’t have a DVD drive on this machine.
Here is an update: after doing a system update using a copy of the iso file on a USB offline, I was able to fix 90% of my problems. However during the update the process, I was given a warning that the update didn’t match my current system. I went ahead with the update anyways.
After rebooting, I used the software update to install about 400 updates. Now everything appears to work except Yast and Virtualbox. I can get into the Yast control center, but then go no further than that. I just get the turning wheel, then nothing.
Any ideas?

How to fix?

well the “safe” long way around would be to save this list to a text file startup yast and do a package search for each one in that list
then in the versions tab select the one from either the 42.3 update repo or if there isn’t an updated version from the oss repo and force an install of it
if a package does not exist for 42.3 remove it
I am happy to do the long way, but there is only one problem, I cannot get past the Yast control center screen. Is there code to force my way in? Or another method.

you can try the ncurses version of yast
yast2 --ncurses
if you’re still having issues using yast then try to reinstall those packages with zypper (if it works now)
zypper install -f <package_name>
