UMTS USB Sticks on opensuse

Dear all,
I live 2 years now in Germany, where I work on a university. Please allow me this email in English,as my German are not yet to the needed level for writing this post here.

I would like to ask you if you have any experience with commercial usb sticks that give you internet access over UMTS. I am not sure if I am allowed to give the companies/providers I already know as an example, so probably I should avoid writing those.

Most of the sticks I have already used have embedded windows drivers, so the installation of those drivers start right after you insert the usb stick into the port.

I would like then to ask you if you have used something similar in linux, and how easily worked (especially if the plug and play is supported, so one gets extra network added/removed dynamically).

I’m using this stick: T-Mobile web’n’walk Stick Fusion II: Amazon.de: Computer & Zubehör

Working fine on OSS 12.1/12.2 and Fedora 17 for me. It’s plug and play controllable ober network manager suite.
It’s without SIM lock so you can use every available mobile contract/prepaid.

Thanks alot for the answer. I will buy the LIDL one and see how it goes… I am slightly worried as this device on windows is using customized drivers
