Tumbleweed works anymore

After years of use with the latest updates Tumbleweed no longer starts , the grub works but no longer starts anything remains a window with a dash at the top left that does not respond to any command , even starting in failsafe does not start . Not being able to waste time, I reinstalled and everything works, but as soon as I update and install the Nvidia Drivers the problem returns, all the other times I’ve had problems of this kind I could recover by exiting with Ctrl+Alt+F2 and then I uninstalled the drivers, but Now I can’t do anything anymore because it doesn’t respond to any command. I also had the brilliant idea during the last install to choose Gnome and yast became slow as a tortoise, I can go get a coffee and go back to the computer which maybe ready.

I have exactly the same problem. Also after years of failproof work on tumbleweed.

Hi,
after the whole day of troubleshooting nothing work, reinstal of nvidia drivers, bbswitch, changing bbswitch defaults, swapping g05 and g06 versions…nothing.

The issue I spotted was that prime-select complained bbswitch was complaining about bbswitch not being loaded. WHen I loaded ‘modprobe bbswitch’ it did not complain but rcxdm restart caused a complete freeze.

After a whole day of trying to fix it in terminal I gave up.
Today I switch the laptop on and boom it works in gui…
no idea how and why

I can not act from the terminal because I can not enter it , it does not respond to any command . Now I’m afraid to retry installing Nvidia Proprietary drivers.

I have the same kind of behavior (black screen with a dash after grub and plymouth); in my case the strange thing is that I can startup smoothly on battery but not on power on (!). This happens since kernel 6.1 upgrade.

I opened a discussion here but I did not find an answer…

It also worked for me with Kernel 6.1.10, then I updated with zypper dup yesterday and I don’t want to be wrong, but Mesa was among the updates. Mhaa today I worked on the computer all day I reinstalled 5 times, because I can’t in any way recover when I install the proprietary Nvidia drivers, it seems that the keyboard doesn’t activate and I can’t give any commands.

I saw that there was the Nvidia Driver update to the new Kernel 6.1.10 , I tried and again black screen with flashing dash in the upper left corner , and no keys that work . I rebooted and added init 3 to the kernel line at the end , and it worked , I was able to get into text mode and uninstall the proprietary Nvidia drivers from Yast2 ncurses … thank goodness .
