I have tried XFCE, LXQT, KDE, etc on 3 different computers and none work. Installation with same options without DE boots normally. The latest image from osboxes.org also works… What details you guys need?
My SOP creating new VMs in all virtualization technologies including Virtualbox is to follow defaults except for the following…
- Install an OS. I always decline and instead choose the “Install the OS later.” In the very last screen of the install when a summary is displayed, <then> I modify the virtual CDROM setting to point to the installation source (ISO).
- Change the newly created virtual disk to be a single file for simpler housekeeping. It’s never a problem for me because I don’t use file systems that have 2GB limits, and I don’t do file transfers with that limit.
- Specifically for Virtualbox, I configure “NAT Network.” so that I can run multiple Guests connected to the same NAT network. If you choose “NAT” then only one machine can connect to the physical network, and will share the HostOS IP address.
If you are not creating your own VMs, then you need to describe where you’re getting your machines from, and perhaps what version of Virtualbox they may be built for.
