I am running tumbleweed on my new laptop, Ryzen 7/Geforce GTX.
Works fine, I have been on vacation for 5 days, and now I get the notification : You have 2,685 new updates
Ok, I suppose that comes with a rolling release.
Start the update, get the message : Update error : vlc-lang-3.0.11-1.6.noarch requires vlc-noX = 3.0.11, but this requirement cannot be providedvlc-noX-3.0.11-4.9.x86_64 requires libvlc5 = 3.0.11-4.9, but this requirement cannot be provided.
So I unchecked all VLC related update items in the update list. Restart update, same result.
Tried YAST update, no updates listed.
How to proceed ?
You are not alone in getting that error message. I have a Ryzen 7 in my desktop (only OS is Tumbleweed) and I got the same VLC error message and 3 similar messages about other VLC packages not being provided. For each instance, I choose the option to “keep the obsolete package”. (The precise wording of the choice has been paraphrased based on my memory.)
Not saying what I did is the best solution, only that it worked for me.
My new Tumbleweed system keeps trying to screw me over by removing ffmpeg codecs that I need to watch videos in Firefox. I fixed it, though. I got them reinstalled and locked them in zypper. It still tries to remove them with every dup, but now it can’t.
Hi
There will also be issues with Packman until September the 8th, so packages may not get rebuilt or/or published… so probably keep things locked until then
