Hi, I have installed the latest updates from today and the “login” sound to the system is not playing. Do you have the issue as well?

Could you tell us a bit more?

  • Did it work before the updates? How did you perform the upgrade ( that is what it is on TW )?
  • What is the DE used?
  • Are we talking about headphones, bluetooth ditto?

Hi,
Yes, everything worked before the update. I use KDE (upgrade via zypper dup), connected to Edifier M60 speakers via a USB cable.
Everything works, including the logout sound. Only the login sound does not work.

Check in systemsettings - notifications - system sound (on the top), whether it’s enabled, and plays the expected sound.

I wonder why I had to change it after updating the system?

This looks like a timing issue, and perhaps recent changes with Plasma cause the login sound to begin earlier in the session startup. PipeWire is normally socket-activated (on demand), and the KDE login sound can be triggered before PipeWire has actually started, so no audio service available yet.

Explicitly starting the PipeWire user service ensures it’s running early enough. Not a big issue IMHO.
