Tumbleweed and longterm kernel. Reasons not to do this?

Hi,

I know it is possible to run Tumbleweed with the LTS version of the kernel (kernel-longterm). One reason why I want to do that, is to ensure VMWare Workstation keeps working on my TW-host (preventing to recompile VM-modules).

But, are there caveats why you should not running longterm in TW? I can think of (theoretically) that new updates might break because of dependencies missing, but is this a real concern? Or eh, my nvidia RTX4090 driver updates and modules and so…

Let me know, interested.

I’ve installed 7 or so 6.12.57 kernels so far. I’ve been skipping kernel latest except when on approach from a mature latest to a recent latest, IOW, no 6.17.x installed as yet. Installations not running on LT kernels continue with 6.16.9. I’ve been doing this going back to the introduction of LT kernels. Total TW installations number roughly 40, none of which use anyone’s proprietary drivers, while newest NV card is a Maxwell.
