Why do so many of the official software releases for tumbleweed point to the factory.repo sites?
trying to install the following to fix an error message at boot
# ucode-intel
Microcode Updates for Intel x86/x86-64 CPUs
I was informed on the forum that if I install from a factory.repo it would break the installed Tumbleweed system, is this correct or not?
However, zypper never seems to be able to find the Factory.repo when I use the Expert Download link on the official.
Myrlyn returned the following error message " Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: Command exited with status 1.
History:- error: can’t create transaction lock on /usr/lib/sysimage/rpm/.rpm.lock (Read-only file system)
How do I get around all of these to install the required unicode intel patch?
Which instructions did you follow? Did you search for the software via zypper or Myrlyn before adding random repos?
ucode-intel is in the official openSUSE repos. So why do you need developement repos? Which patch exactly is missing?
Do NOT use software.openSUSE.org for software search. It is broken since ages and candidate for permanent shutdown.
The Myrlyn error speaks for it self and is clear: you sre using a read-only filesystem. So boot from a read-write snapshot or perform a proper rollback. See extensive snapper documentation.
Hi, hui!
wow very stern reply, what is the point of having a page for software if it is broken? why doesn’t someone put a message on the page stating this? I am very new to this whole thing and ask questions and follow replies! even some replies don’t make sense to me!
I didn’t follow instructions, I just saw the link for opensuse software and thought " this might be a good place to find what I’m looking for?" Rational innit?
Thank you for the information on snapper, i’ll look into this today.
I was only informed recently that zypper and Myrlyn are good at finding software, i need to read the documentation on both to get a better handle on how to use them more efficiently?
So, yes i’m on a steep learning curve here, i have a little time to spend on this, as I have many other non-IT related projects on the go.
Thank you hui! your obviously greater knowledge of things opensuse and your willingness to help those such as myself is very much appreciated !
Have a good day, amigo!
Rocinante!
I wonder, what’s in its place now? I have links to it that I’ve never updated.
zypper, Myrlyn, OBS, …
zypper & Myrlyn are limited to existing repositories. Maybe OBS will do it.
@jonc yes, you can search directly for packages on the Open Build Service.
No one needs devel: or home: repos. Paraphrasing Elvis Presley:
If you use a package from a source of someone else, that’s when your heartaches begin
