TSC_DEADLINE disabled please update - HOW?

I am unable to get past the error message at boot that i need to update microcode to 0x22 or later. There is a flashing cursor at he bottom of the message but it is not a input prompt so I have no idea how to do the update.

I found this closed blog:
[Firmware Bug]: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to Errata; please update microcode to version 0x22 (or...?

But this is of no help as it seems to assume that I can get into my system.

This problem occured on re-boot after kernel upgrade. I have tried using the earlier kernels on the grub splash but get the same result.

Can anyone tell me in simple terms how to make this microcode upgrade?

Just install package ucode-intel which should be installed by default.

After the above error message there is also the following:

That is something entirely different and is unlikely to be related to TSC_DEADLINE disabled.

What I can do is boot from read only snapshot. is it possible to update the system from the snapshot?

No, you need to “rollback” (actually, clone read-only snapshot into writable subvolume) first.

Ok so I rolled back updated the system and noticed the same HUGE number of dracut messages as last time so I have copied them below. System had same error on reboot

@aeodwrath, you have old kernels, or your keeping old ones, or kernels haven’t been purged?

This module was merged AFAIK Failed to find module 'vfio_virqfd' into vfio-pci so need to look at that.

When was the system updated with zypper dup?

Its tumbleweed so every time I update. The last snap is dated 15th March

is it safe to purge old kernels given that i can currently only boot from a snapshot?

yes I have a windows 10 vm for world of warcraft and a dedicated nvida gpu

ive tried various upgrades but it seems the system wojt play with the 6.9 kernek so ive rolled back to the 6.7 snapshot and it runs ok

@aeodwrath so you need to get rid of the reference to vfio_virqfd should only need
intel_iommu=on or amd_iommu=on and a relevant kvm.conf and vfio.conf file in /etc/modprobe.d/

ive just noticed the vm light was on on the kvm switch so im going to try again with the vm hardware unplugged
