Trying to understand slowroll

I’m getting another laptop next month. Long time Leap user. I understand (I think) that slowroll is some kind of monthly snapshot of tumbleweed.

There are packages that I use that are not listed in slowroll, like emacs, claws-mail… Can I use the Tumbleweed versions?

On some forums and reddit, they say no, on some they say that it’s possible…

And does OPI works with slowroll to pull some of the OBS packages?

Thanks

(Not) Listed where?

Slowroll ships exactly the same set of packages like Tumbleweed.

Don’t use https://software.opensuse.org/ for software search. It is broken (known for a long time).

I use either OPI or https://software.opensuse.org/

So what should I use instead?

The built in tools like zypper se or YaST Software.

What about the myriad of apps that I sometimes need to make things work like claws-mail that doesn’t exist for leap 15.6 or darktable that is much much too old for 15.6 or emacs that is really, really old on leap…

For these and many other libraries, I’ve been using https://software.opensuse.org/ through the OPI front end.

Is your question about Slowroll or Leap?

If you use the onboard search tools you will find that claws-mail is available in the standard OSS repo for Leap 15.6:

test@leaptest:~> sudo zypper info claws-mail
Refreshing service 'openSUSE'.

Reading installed packages...

Instead of using OPI which installs packages from developement repos, you can always use the built in tools like Discover (Plasma) or Gnome Software (Gnome) and install apps via Flatpak.

My question is about slowroll but all of my opensuse experience is about leap which i have been using since leap 15.2.

I have tried on TW and it didn’t go well because of my lack of understanding of btrfs, snapshot and a not large drive…
