Trying to get hp deskjet 1055 to print

I’ve recently installed opensuse 12.3 64bit. have had bad experiences with opensuse in the past and hope this time I’ll stay with it.

I set up the printer and it looks like its all set with driver, but when I try to print it does nothing. What else is there to do?

I’m used to Debian and Mint and they automatically set the printer up. Why can’t opensuse do the same?

How do I fix this problem?

I should have done this before. After a reboot the printer started working. Sometimes a reboot is needed and sometimes not, never really know.

Since I can’t find a way to delete this thread, please delete for me. Thanks.

Not done in these parts

That you had a problem and found the solution can be useful for others
coming later.

yes it’s called when in doubt, reboot.

Why can’t you delete threads in this forum?

So far using opensuse 12.3 has been a bad experience. Both digkam and shotwell can’t do what they are supposed to do.

Everyone likes to make fun of Ubuntu, but the 13.04 version has worked far better than this one. I try to like openSuse and have installed it 3 times in the past few years and something always goes wrong. Why do people like this distro? I’ve have no problems with Debian, Mint or Ubuntu. openSuse should be equally as good.

Sorry, but I try to keep an open mind, but I’m about to dump this version and go back to Debian.

I’m not an admin, but it is simply not done here, except for spam and
similar. There is a support forum around here where this question has
been asked before.

I read that, answered there.

Well, I don’t have problems with openSUSE, it works for me. And I don’t
make fun of other distros, either.

Every Linux distro has peculiarities, some things work better, other
worse. Some distros work better for some people, some doesn’t. Just
choose the one that work best for you

Because that’s the way we operate here - your question has value, even
though you found the answer yourself (rebooting), and that can help
someone else who has the same issue.

Why don’t you troubleshoot issues by opening individual threads per issue and get them fixed since you seem to be open minded.

At least on the shotwell issue, he did - in the appropriate forum
(applications).

For the record, shotwell-0.11.5-1.3.1 crashes for me too often, with a
segfault, IIRC. It happens when I click on a photo to edit it with gimp.
I just restart it. As 12.1 is almost EOL I have not reported it and I’m
waiting for the upgrade to check if there are improvements.

And this did not happen 2 months ago.

But then, I’m not jumping ship because of that
