Troubleshooting SDDM Hangs on Screen locking

I have an intermittent issue where when my screen locks. Sometimes I will move the mouse just as the screen begins to lock to wake it up, and then my login screen hangs and I am unable login. Mouse moves, I can loginto a new tty session, but I cannot get into the original session.

Currently on kernel 6.10-3 with plasma wayland, but I’ve had this issue for a while (about 1 year) and also noticed it on plasma X11 sessions.

  1. How can I start debugging this issue? Where can I find SDDM logs?
  2. Could this be a hardware issue? I am on a 13th gen intel CPU that could have been affected by Intels 0x129 microcode bug.

Thx

SDDM does not do any screen locking at all. This is your desktop environment.

Thx for pointing me in the right direction. It is a screen locking issue.

Found this KDE bug which describes my issue: 476567 – With some authentication methods (e.g. fingerprint and smartcard), moving the cursor during the screen lock grace period breaks the locker

The workaround that was suggested is to set the screen locking delay to require password immediately.

Thx
