Trouble with kde-look.org

Since kde-look recently came back online, I’ve had a lot of trouble connecting to the site. Gnome-look and all the other related sites are fine. I keep getting a “Connection Interrupted” error. If I keep trying 20-30 times, it will eventually come up, but half of the graphics won’t load, and clicking on any link will elicite the same behavior. This site says it is just me: Down for everyone or just me? Most of the UK users I’ve talked to on the Ubuntu forums report no problem. I haven’t gotten any feedback from US users. It happens with FF3, Konqueror, and IE6(wine). What could cause this just on my end? Does anyone else have trouble?

Hi, thats weird cause its working perfectly fine for me, is it just these sites or some others?

I am not in the US right now so I probably won’t be any help though.

fine here from the U.K.

Andy

That is what is so weird, it is only kde-look.org. No settings have changed on my end (opensuse, router, etc.) They recently went down, and had to get a new server. That is when I started having trouble. I assume there is only one server address (no mirror sites), so you wouldn’t think location would matter. I guess if some of the US users report no problems, I will know for sure.

do u have another machine the u can check on perhaps?

I have three PC’s. My desktop(opensuse), my laptop(opensuse), and my daughter’s desktop(Linux Mint). All three have this problem, but are all connected to my Dynex router. The two desktops are connected via cat5 cables(router hubs), and the laptop via wireless from Dynex router. I tried resetting router settings back to factory settings and rebooting it with no luck. I live in the sticks, so I have a highspeed Wildblue satellite connection. It just hit me while I was writing this to just plug the satellite cable directly to my desktop and see if that makes a difference. I’ll be back.

No problem whatsoever reaching both kde-look.org and gnome-look.org with FF3.0.1 from the Netherlands.

Still no love. Would not load website while bypassing router. Maybe kde-look just doesn’t like Kentucky:D Does anyone know for sure if they have any mirror sites?

EDIT: I also thought maybe some of my firefox settings could be clashing with their server, so I loaded the Linux Mint 5 live CD and tried with a “virgin” firefox with the same results.

I don’t think u should be worried, its probably just in your area, thats all I can think of, I doubt any of the linux installations r messed up.

Friday i couldn’t connect to them but today seems to be fine and working well

I have a weird update. I still can’t get the website to work correctly at Eyecandy for your KDE-Desktop - KDE-Look.org However, after looking at the page source, I found http://static.kde-look.org For some reason this works perfectly. Why does static make a difference?

I’m not sure of the static v normal. But I too have been having intermittent problems with kde-look. Even when it does work, it is a lot slower than any other site.

After two days with the content not changing, I notice that all of the content at http://static.kde-look.org is dated DEC 9 2007.
