Trouble Installing

I am using Vmware workstation 8 to try to install openSUSE 12.1 64bit on a dvd. I downloaded the 4.3gb file from opensuse.org and burned to a dvd using Poweriso on Windows 7. When the installer reaches the “Loading Installation 3/6” screen, an error comes up saying “No repository found”. What am I doing wrong here?

First question

  1. Do you actually need to burn a DVD. Most Virtual Machine software allows the use of the downloaded .iso Your problem sounds like a bad burn, but you can check it

Running disk check now. I burned it to a dvd because mounting it and booting it off the iso wasn’t working either.

Then you should first made sure the .iso md5sum is correct
If you downloaded with bittorrent it’s more likely to be OK but you can force a re-check of the chunks.
It’s usually the dvd burning part that goes wrong, especially it seems if you use windows (why that’s the case I don’t know)

I ran the disk check and it said it was okay. Restarted and tried to install again and the error came up again when it reached the third installation file. I downloaded the file with bittorrent also. I’m pretty new to linux and I’m just trying to figure out how to setup a web server / email client, and I found a guide using openSUSE and decided to give it a try.

*Edit and do you think downloading the the files and burning to disc on Ubuntu would make a difference?

I’m not sure then.
I never used VMWare and would suggest you try booting the DVD for real just to see if it will proceed. The great thing is, you can go all the way through setting up the install, but nothing actually changed until the very last step.
So see if it will run directly on your machine
