hi i downloaded opensuse 11.1 .iso cd ,i checked for error using the md5 checksum, but there was no error ,so i made a live usb using unetbootin in windows, but i when i booted using the usb, i got an error message saying"couldn’t find live image configuration file"

is there any alternative software for unetbootin??i just dont want to waste a cd burnin the image file, can someone please help me out???

There has been a number of issues with suse and unetbootin
burn the cd

so there is no alternative for unetbootin??

I think there is a default download for suse in the unetbootin list, not sure what version.

Install on PC that can’t boot from CD - openSUSE a few options here.

Easiest if you have a grub installed would probably be booting to the cd image.

Edit
Otherwise I would thought a usb pen boot with the net install iso.

can you please give me the detail of the first option you gave me,i.e ,“Easiest if you have a grub installed would probably be booting to the cd image.”
how do i do that?

The first thing you need is to get the kernel and the initrd out, as the link from the other page(Apologies this is better page)

http://en.opensuse.org/Installation_without_CD#Installing_from_data_saved_on_your_local_machine

Installation without CD - openSUSE then you need this as the other page you can just use the command line grub and the files can be any where ever you like, just need to put the correct path in… Then it should boot to the install part but you will then need to choose a source …

Installation without CD - openSUSE

I really can’t assist further than that its been a long time since I did it, and in the earlier versions you had iso as a source but the setup section implies you can use the iso.

Edit wrong first link though principle the same…

Edit 2
Use some savvy I suspect you’ll get a source choice on the first boot screen(I do for the net install iso) change it here that page is outdated.
