Trashed VMWare Install ~ Want to reinstall (OS11.2 x64)

I am running OpenSuSE 11.2 64bit which was upgraded from 11.1. When I moved to OS 11.2, I found out the hard way about VMWare not working. Then tried to remove it and fix it myself.

When I try to run the config script…

parents:~ # vmware-config.pl
Unable to find the answer LIBDIR in the installer database
(/etc/vmware/locations). You may want to re-install VMware Server.

Execution aborted.

parents:~ #

When I try to install vmware-server

parents:~ # rpm -i VMware-server-2.0.2-203138.x86_64.rpm
        package VMware-server-2.0.2-203138.x86_64 is already installed

When I try to upgrade vmware-server

parents:~ # rpm -U VMware-server-2.0.2-203138.x86_64.rpm
        package VMware-server-2.0.2-203138.x86_64 is already installed

When I try to force install vmware-server

parents:~ # rpm --force VMware-server-2.0.2-203138.x86_64.rpm
        rpm: only installation, upgrading, rmsource and rmspec may be forced

Other than rebuilding my box, how can I recover from this?

Thanks,
John

VMware installation program dies not like the newer kernels and VMware does not seem to be in any hurry to fix it. Forced me to move to VirtualBox. If you search in the forum you should find a patch that is supposed to work. Once installed Server is said to run fine.

I found the patch to fix vmware. And the patch works great on a cleanly installed OpenSuSE 11.2 installation. My problem is I can not reinstall or repair the VMWare. I feel I need to manually delete and remove all instances of vmware from the system. Then Install VMWare fresh, and apply patch.
