Transfer(copy, move...) files from Linux to Windows

Hello!

I am runnig WinXP and OpenSUSE 11.4 on dual boot.
Generaly i am using SUSE, XP only for UpNP Media Center(server) to watch movies stored on my computer on TV via STB.
For this i am using TVersity for wich i not found yet Linux alternative - or better say - i found it but is too heavy for my PC(P4 1.6 Mhz, 768 MB RAM, an dinosaur from Nvidia Vanta with 64 MB RAM)

But this is not a part of my question.

My question is how to transfer(copy, move…?) files from SUSE to WinXP?
A large files like avi, mkv, mostly movies.
I solved this to copy them on USB and then from USB to Win.
This is a very slow proces because my PC have only USB 1.0
And before asked me - all files are legaly downloaded from paysites.

From SUSE, partitions(disks), folders and files under WinXP are visible but is not possible to copy files on them - acces is denied.
Is there any way to do this?
Suse is insatlled on LVM - /root/home/swap
I am interesting ONLY to copy files from SUSE to Win, not at al from Win to SUSE.

Thank You for answers

This HowTo should show you how to make your NTFS partitions writable from
OpenSuse.

You have to set permissions for you as normal user to move/copy files from your linux partiton to the ntfs partition that windows has.
Open Yast -> System -> Partitioner (click yes at the warning) -> right click on the partition, press edit in order to make it read/write for you as normal user -> Fstab Options -> then add this value “uid=1000,gid=100,umask=0022,locale=en_US.UTF-8” -> save settings. This is how i`ve done it for an external usb hdd in order for me to move/copy files from my linux partition to the ntfs partition of the usb drive.

Given your hardware specification, Windows XP may not be using NTFS but be using FAT32. If so, all you need to do is open a Konsole, enter su --, give your password and use cp.

Hello,
on my dualboot o.S.11.2 /winXP I am using the recovery partition Fat 32 for easy transfer of data
forth and back.
On dualboot o.S.11.4/ win7 I used parted magic to shrink the windows C-partition, added a FAT32-partition and then installed o.S.11.4.
I don’t know if that fits for large amounts of data like movies or similar.

hi,
there is no problem to copy any file to a NTFS partition. Make sure ntfs-3g and ntfs-config are installed. launch ntfs-config if necessary to enable write mode on NTFS partition.

Hi,
copying to windows partition will work in root account. (this is in my case)
if you are worried to get into the root account,as a normal try this command at the console:

sudo cp "source" "destination"

it will ask for the root password. If you enter the root password, then it will be copied.
Now, for long file names, just enter the first two or three letters of the file name and press [tab] the full file name appears automatically.

Regards.
