Hello. I got myself a free 15.6 inch laptop which needed repairs and upgrades (very old, no webcam, no mike, perfect for me.). I’v been getting the bounced from one toshiba support number to another. Each one saying the next one has the info I need. Think of this: 1 → 2 → 3 → 4 → 1
I’m in a tech help endless loop.
Windoz 10 Doesn’t support it fully, Empire Earth has no cursor. So, I have format back to windows 7 which has all the drivers. I’m removing the wireless card, not using the internet on windows 7. Win7 dual boot is just for playing old games
Opensuse Leap 42.1 works perfectly.
Upgrades found: keyboard $12 + memory 800mhz 4gb $25
The CPU, I couldn’t find anything more it’s a socket s1, not the types it supports. Even with about 2 hours+ of talking to tech support. They’re worthless and i’m not buying anything from them.
I can’t get the info. What kind of socket s1 support ? s1g1 s1g2 s1g3 s1g4. Amazon has socket s1’s, but I can’t figure out which one will work. If anyone has more parts locations, say post them.
Hi
What CPU output from the dmidecode output… probably a AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-60 (2.0 GHz) are you sure it’s socketed and not direct on the motherboard (Toshiba Satellite C655 I have does).
It says the cpu is S1G1, what it thought it was. What about the motherboard’s support? The bios should be v2.00

Hi
Its a AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-62 which AFAIK is the top end one… probably only the GPU age and CPU flags that may let you down…

list?
Thanks.
Hi
I think this will be the best you get a
“AMD-Turion-TL-66-TMDTL66HAX5DM-Processor” which is a 2.3GHz But you
may need to see if any BIOS updates (it may not support that one) even
if it fits.

I have the page for the it. It includes bios updates. I’ll just have to try it and see what happens.
I got it free and it about $150 to fix up. Not bad a price for a laptop!
Thanks for the help.
FYI, Everything worked.
4gb Crucial 800mhz memory (2X 2gb)
AMD Turion TL-66 2.3ghz CPU
Downgrading to Windows 7 fixed all the problems. Also, I found the Toshiba website where to download all the driver files.
http://support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome?freeText=1909314
The laptop works much faster.
