Since browsers almost allways put their tabs above the actual webpage browser section, moving the cursor up to a tab pops up the menus (under What’s New?, Forum or openSUSE).
Make the initial drop-down menu when the header is Clicked, and thereafter allow menus to open when hovered over.
This way people moving from one tab to another, or closing a tab doesn’t trigger the menu to pop up, while those that want the menus are only a single click away.
What do you mean by “corrupt”? I’ll check them when I get home, just wondering what I should look for.
I know there are times when it is difficult trying to “Mark Forums Read” because the menu keeps dissappearing unless I’m reeeeeal careful in moving my mouse.
This little fault goes away if I set the zoom in Firefox 3.6.12 (in openSUSE 11.2) smaller [Control]+[0] or to normal [Control]+[0] - but I rather like to see half of the word “Messages” but not all so small
I do not really get the clue why such a tiny thing is disturbing anyone.
Who of you gets and therefore needs “New Group Messages”?
Maybe I missed a very interesting group and networking?
“Spicy Cookies”, “Friends Of SUZI” or “Herbs Healing Herpes”:P?
Considering this was a thread for suggestions, as well as issue, I was suggesting a change in the menu selection since the combination of this stuff popping up when trying to move from one tab to another is was I am referring to. Yes, I can use the keystroke, but that is not the issue.
As for the corruption, it exists (as screenshots have shown) in multiple browsers in multiple systems.
Why should any of this matter, well anything that makes the forums run and feel better is a benefit to multiple users. This could also be an indicator of the forums not playing nice with smaller screens. Making the text smaller or zooming out doesn’t necessarily help because it makes the rest of the text so small it is unreadable. I know because I’ve had to reduce the text significantly if I want the login portion of the page to be to the side of the side menu selection, instead of underneath it.
Who said it was “disturbing”. The main requirement of the thread was to have the hover changed so that it didn’t interfere with the standard operation of say firefox’s toolbar. Kim explained how that wasn’t possible with this implementation of the forum software, and we have to accept that.
However please don’t tell me I need to zoom to overcome one “corrupted” menu item, when the browser defaults work for everything else. If the use of “New Group Messages” is rarer than hens’ teeth, why not just remove it and avoid spoiling an otherwise polished looking default presentation.
Told so I could now retrace this point of your critic a bit better. Thanks.
If I take a look at vBulletin Community Forum
it seems that the people of vBulletin are using top a top menu you have to click on (and javascript) -
Example given:“Quick Links /” (But with only on sub-issue)
My intent was more to show that half hidden letters were not only an issue of one special bottom in this menu. And I had posted the second screenshot.
There for I let Show your signature als it is in order to show my screens resolution. Maybe some more could write about their data or link also to screenshots?
I could not reproduce this effect now with firefox and openSUSE 11.4 using the normal zoom or using the text zoom But maybe Kim knows what that effect causes you are referring too.
Also the the logout and the login bottom of Novell is not easy to click on if I use small screen (e.g.Samsung Galaxy S).
(By the way I use now mostly a link that leads me directly to the Novell Login page and after that to my settings with my “Subscribed Threads with New Posts” and my “Subscribed Forums”).
Sorry for my sometimes a bit special humor - I am also sometimes laughing all on my own in a crowded cinema (not simultaneous with the other guests). I meant no offense.
Since the corruption appears to be caused by a wrapped menu entry, I suspect it has more to do with default font sizes (browser/DE) versus the menu column width, and depth allowed for the menu entry. Kim would know more about the menu limitations. Not to mention your non-default DE s/w and setups.
