Thunderbird update doesnt install

The latest Thunderbird Update does not install on my Leap 15.6 Desktop. The message is

on the command line (terminal) it shows options to resolve though, it conflicts with one of the newer Firefox 140esr packages it seems.

sudo zypper up MozillaThunderbird
Problem: 1: the installed kmozillahelper-5.0.6-bp156.1.3.x86_64 requires ‘mozilla-kde4-version = 6’, but this requirement cannot be provided

Solution 1: downgrade of MozillaFirefox-140.1.0-150200.152.193.1.x86_64 to MozillaFirefox-128.12.0-150200.152.188.1.x86_64
Solution 2: deinstallation of kmozillahelper-5.0.6-bp156.1.3.x86_64
Solution 3: do not install MozillaThunderbird-140.1.0-150200.8.230.1.x86_64
Solution 4: break kmozillahelper-5.0.6-bp156.1.3.x86_64 by ignoring some of its dependencies

FYI: 1247369 – Unable to apply openSUSE-SLE-15.6-2025-2546-1 for Thunderbird on Leap 15.6. Removing kmozillahelper should fix it. Is xdg-desktop-portal installed?

this 15.6 system does have a number of portal packages installed:

rpm -aq | grep -i portal

and I do use flatpak flathub. is this still the solution to resolve this? thanks.

xdg-desktop-portal is installed

I presume it is a KDE environment, should be sufficient.

There are sveral threads here related to things happening to kmozillahelper. Look a bit around:

  • unresolvable dependency with kmozillahelper
  • Thunderbird made a dependency of Firefox
  • Firefox file-picker changed

And they led to several bug reports.
