The disk contains an unclean file system (0, 0). Metadata kept in Windows cache, refused to mount.

Hi,

Could I have some help please with this error message, it’s when I try to mount this disk in Dolphin File Manager :-

The disk contains an unclean file system (0, 0).
Metadata kept in Windows cache, refused to mount.
Failed to mount '/dev/sdb2': Operation not permitted
The NTFS partition is in an unsafe state. Please resume and shutdown
Windows fully (no hibernation or fast restarting), or mount the volume
read-only with the 'ro' mount option.

The Windows Server the disk came from never hibernated. It was an old 32 bit Windows 7 PC.

I would like to write to the disk. I am using Dolphin File Manager

Thanks

I guess you should put the disk in a MS Windows system, and close it down properly there.

Do not know exactly how, because my Windows knowledge is almost nil, but I guess you know more about it (else you would not want to write to a disk with a Windows file system).

Hi,

Two disks were removed from a Windows system. One disk mounts ok, the other gives this message, and the PC was shutdown properly.

Thanks

Lee

I still think that you should repair the Windows file system on a Windows system. I do not think a Linux system can do much for you here.

Unless you have turn off fast shutdown - shutdown in Windows 8 or 10 is just a hibernate - that makes the NTFS file system marked as still in use.

Here is a link on how to turn off fast shutdown so you can mount NTFS in Linux when you shutdown Windows 8 or 10.

Larryr,

This worked, thanks
