Taskbar of kde in os 11.2 freeze with mounted nfs fs

Hello

Taskbar and desktop freezes if you have nfs mounted filesystems and nfs server is not responding in opensuse 11.2 (kde4)
When server comes back it works again.
I have removed all applets because I tought Updater Applet (/usr/bin/kupdateapplet) could be the problem removed system panel etc. but it’s the same.
After about 20s-30s after server has gone taskbar and desktop is not anymore responding to events…

nfs mount options:
noauto,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,intr

BTW: With df is the same is hanging if entering in nfs mount.
So it seems that something in the taskbar will iterate over nfs mount points …

Where should I report this bug?

And last but not least how can I identify the kde minor version which is installed?

Greetings

Hi tkmbe,

Did you find a solution? I’m having the same issue. Didn’t realize what was causing it until I read your post and yes indeed that is what’s happening. nfs server stops (wife shuts down her laptop) and my taskbar stop functioning. Solution???

Thanks,
James

No have not found a solution but it’s not releated only to the nfs service.
The taskbar freeze with other issues to.
It seems a “thread” problem of taskbar or qt or what ever so it’s realy not an mount point problem…

Greetings

I ran into this today. Intermitant freezes in taskbar, and dolphin randomly hanging.

The solution turned out to be changing from nfs3 to nfs4 and all the hanging/freezing went away.

Also take care to leave nfs mount options to “defaults”, unless you’re sure about what you’re doing.
