Dear forum members,
Since less than a year I’m switched to Linux.
Since about three or for months I use OpenSuse on my laptop.
So although I realy like Linux, I’m not realy formiliar with the way everything works.::shame:
Since last night I have also the XFCE desktop installed(I like the speed and stability of XFCE).
My question is:Does XFCE has no taskbar???
And if so where or how can I get the taskbar.

i don’t know if it works the same way in openSUSE, but when i was an ubuntu user, one time i had installed XFCE, and there was no taskbar… so i had to create a panel, then i go to the properties of this panel by right click, and there should be an option called “expand”, or something like that, i dont remember very well… but its an option that will expand the panel as long as your monitor is. then you should add the applets that you want to this panel , and you’re done!!

The taskbar is at the top by default in openSUSE. You can right-click and move it wherever you’d like, though.

but [correct me if im wrong] that’s when you install opensuse with XFCE by default. if you install it with, for example, KDE, and then you install the XFCE desktop, and go to the KDM and select XFCE, there will be no taskbar **
I never experience it with suse.
Try mouse right click in the desktop when you see the run command click it and type xfce4-panel and hit enter. It should bring you the xfce4-panel or taskbar if xfce is properly installed. When in the next login it is still missing add xfce4-panel in the autostarted application as a quick fix.
I haven’t experienced that either. I did do some tweaking one time and had KDE’s taskbar instead of Xfce’s.

Indeed, I did install Opensuse 11.1 originaly in KDE.
a few days ago I also added XFCE.
So XFCE is not my original windowsmanager or (how you call it).
That is probably the reason why there is no taskbar.
But with the tips of this forum, I think I will fix the problem.

Dear forum members,
In relation to my topic about a taskbar in XFCE:
After i restarted my laptop, I could make XFCE my default windowmanager.
By doing that I also crated a taskbar, probably when I rebooted my systeem.
So I now have a smothe running Opensuse 11.1 inXFCE, with a taskbar.
It runs smooth as silk. lol!
