Tablet PCs Wiki

I need the Tablet PCs wiki for installing correct packets on my Hp with openSuse 11.3. I used these wiki several weeks ago on my pc with openSuse 11.2 and functioned it, but now I don’t find the wiki due to site restyling.

maybe if you post to
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/community/opensuse-wiki-discussions/
and describe what you are trying to once again find, then some member
of The Wiki Team will be able to help you…but, i understand they are
pretty busy about now…

i can’t help you because i can’t find anything there without FAR more
frustration than i wanna have in one day…

I partially solved the problem in this topic, but now I don’t know how to configure my tablet because sax2 is dropped in openSuse 11.3.
Does anyone know a solution?

MaxiPigna wrote:
> Does anyone know a solution?

yes, SAX2 was dropped and new ways explained here:

http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Configuring_graphics_cards

hope it helps enough, if not i’d suggest you post again, with a new
subject line, maybe something like “11.3 graphics on HP Tablet [model]
w/[graphics]”

where [Graphics] is ATI, Intel, nVidia, whatever…

DenverD I think my problem is more simple, infact my pc recognizes the pen that i use, but I can’t click because it wasn’t configure probably.
How can I do it?

MaxiPigna wrote:
> How can I do it?

no idea…can only suggest you try google, using a search string
something like:

linux “HP [model]” Tablet setup pen click

http://www.google.dk/search?q=linux+“HP+[model]”+Tablet+setup+pen+click

or, how did you do it with 11.2?
oh! also if you know the old URL to the tablet wiki, it was something
like http://en.open[snip], change that to http://old-en.open[snip]

and you should find the old wiki there…

Old-TabletPCs wiki
There you can read how to configure Tablet: using Sax2. Why did they change it without substitute it adequately?

I’m not sure, but I remember that there is an icon like ‘TABLET’ in Yast or System Settings, when I used openSuse 11.2. Naturally I didn’t find it in openSuse 11.3.

I thought to a setup problem because when I installed openSuse 11.3, I couldn’t click on touchpad, but I had to use properly click button. I solved the problem throw System Settings. I don’t know if there is a link between two problems.

So I tried to contact him, but I didn’t receive an answer. DenverD, you are more important than me, can you try to ask him?

Thank you for your patience.

PS: my HP is a tx2000 model, but I have just try to find on Google.

you are wrong, i am not more important than you! as far as i know i’m
am less important than everyone else here, except one:wink:

> PS: my HP is a tx2000 model, but I have just try to find on Google.

i see that
http://www.google.com/search?q=linux+“HP+tx2000”+Tablet+setup+pen+click

returns 214 results…i suggest you read through them all, and don’t
attempt to ‘fix’ your problem until you have a firm understanding of
what is going on, and why (and you have all your data/music/etc backed
up)…or remember it worked in 11.2 so, you can always go
back…just restore from the system backup you made before you
installed 11.3 and it should all be fine again…

and, 11.2 is supported for another 16 months or so…long before then
others will have figured out how to make your tablet work with 11.3…

peace.

Thank you very very very much for your help. I will wait the new wiki, hoping it help me.
Bye bye DenverD.

PS: I admit that opensuse deludes me this time…

MaxiPigna wrote:

unless someone (like you) asks for the info to be updated it probably
won’t be…i can only guess but i think if you just wait, you might
find it a pretty long wait…

i did finally, find the old page you got 11.2 going with:
http://old-en.opensuse.org/SDB:Howto_install_OpenSuSE_on_HP_tx2-xxxx_laptops

i guess it might still work…or it might not…you didn’t happen
to archive a copy of /etc/X11/xorg.conf did you?? if not, too bad
because i guess you could have used some of the info in there to
construct a fix to your now non-working pen click…

if you can drag up a copy out of your backup archive maybe someone can
help you with doing that…

or, you might find it easier to get attention from the hacker Danny
Kukawka as dannyK on irc.freenode.org (or, someone else their might be
helpful)

or in one of the mail lists…for how to join, which to join, how to
act there see:

http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Mailing_list_netiquette
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Communication_channels#Mailing_lists

otherwise, sitting and waiting is gonna be kinda lonely…

and, see this thread…it might be helpful:
http://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php?t=443230

it seems (from what i’ve read trying to help you) that openSUSE sees
your tablet pc as a watcom tablet, so be sure and look for the
solution that way also…

I may have discovered something DenverD. Look here.

This wiki says:

The Wacom Control Panel is a GUI (graphical user interface) based configuration tool for the Linux Wacom tablet driver. Using the Wacom Control Panel, it is easy to set per-user preferences for tablet options including:

tablet active area
pad button functions (also known as "Express Keys")
pen button functions
stylus button-click threshold
eraser button-click threshold
stylus pressure sensitivity
eraser pressure sensitivity
stylus cursor positioning mode (as absolute or relative)
eraser cursor positioning mode (as absolute or relative)
stylus cursor speed
and more

There isn’t .rpm, only source code is available. Readme file says to run ‘./configure && make’ command. If Wacompl doesn’t work, how can I uninstall it?

MaxiPigna wrote:

it is probably not very big, if it don’t work just leave it…

be sure and run that ‘./configure && make’ in a terminal as yourself,
NOT as root…

and, i guess the instructions then tell you to run ‘make install’ as
root, do that this way

su	<give root pass when asked, but you can't see what you type
make install	<WAIT for it to finish, then
exit

if need more on compiling from source code don’t run away screaming,
it is not that hard, just a little confusing at first…and, you can
find about a million threads in these fora explaining how to get the
gcc compiler installed via YaST, and other stuff…

maybe you should start learning here:
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Compiling_software

I highlighted three warnings, they impede the installation. Where can i search these headers? So i can specify the correct directory through these options:

./configure --with-kernel=<kernel directory> --with-tcl=<tcl directory> --with-tk=<tk directory>

I already tried *–with-kernel=/lib/modules/2.6.34-12-default/kernel/

  • and another directory, but nothing…

i have NOT read your output with great attention to detail…but, it
appears you need to install the kernel headers (and some other stuff)

open YaST, go Software > Software management
type in the search box

kernel-header

when the list comes up on the right side, right click (to mark for
install) the “linux-kernel-headers” for your installed kernel, then

type in the search box

tcl-devel

and right click to mark it for install, then type in search

tk-devel

and mark it for install, and then (at the bottom) click “Accept”…

now, YaST is gonna look around and (probably) decide that it can’t
just install those two things, it is gonna have to also install some
other stuff (aks: dependencies), and it will ask you if you want to
install its suggested list, my advice: say yes

when YaST is done (might take a while) then run your ./configure
again, and see if it reports success…

if it doesn’t report success it will report an error, look at it
because: i did know exactly what to look for to help you except i CAN
read, i could could see (for example) the error message said “tcl
headers” and that is what i searched on…and it found nothing, then i
searched on tcl and scrolled down through a thousand listed until i
found tcl-devel and read in the summary column “Header Files”…and,
same for tk…

read and try…

remember Have a lot of fun!

ain’t this fun?

I installed tcl-devel and tk-devel, so two warnings are disappeared.

The search of ‘kernel-header’ shows nothing, so I tried with ‘kernel’ only.
The output is:

Now, there are two warnings, kernel-header and this:

s
checking if wacom_drv.{o,so} should be compiled... configure: WARNING: requires Xorg SDK or XFree86 build environment, wacom_drv not built

There was before, but I had not seen it.

search for and install xorg-x11-server-sdk

as for the kernel header problem i am as lost as you…seems someone
changed the way the kernel packages are labeled and forgot to tell
me…i have asked some others to step in here and help you…just
hang on a little…

Xorg dependence is ok.

Could be kernel-source the missing package in your opinion?

I installed kernel-source and I solved dependence.
Now configure command go well, but at the end it advise me saying:

You can build the kernel driver from this package by
./configure --enable-wacom

NOTE: this package only supports Xorg server older than 1.7.
You are running a newer version.
Please build the X driver from xf86-input-wacom.

Repositories don’t contain xf86-input-wacom. This is only way to get the driver?

Post your model number here, I also have a HP tablet and am struggling with this.
Mine’s a HP Tx2510US and I know in suse 11.2 theres a SA2 config for it

My idea, not tested yet, is to correct it on 11.2 then take the working file(s) and install 11.3 and move those working files onto 11.3 and hope it works.
