swap partition on separate drive?

Saw a reference to putting the swap partition on a separate drive–just minutes after I was considering that approach. Can’t find anything recent on the topic, so asking:
Is there an advantage to having /swap on a separate HD from data on /home? My thought was that both disks could be active at once, perhaps speeding up a busy application.

It can help a little if your other disk is also busy, but if you are starting to use swap significantly, that is already the biggest hit. Best to avoid entering a swap regime by having enough RAM in the first place.
