since 9.1 hasn’t been supported since June of 2006, consider trying
the openSUSE 11.2 Live CD which should run fine on your machine

you can boot from the disk and will not touch your hard drive unless
or until you click to install it…

and, i guess it might install and run in that VM…but, i don’t know
that for sure…

Hi Palladium

Thanks a lot for ur suggestion and valuable time

But if u can help me to understand why this type of screen comes (attached in post)
when installing suse linux 9.1 on vmware 6.

I can’t see the file. Just get a bunch of ads. So I don’t know the problem you are having.

Not exactly sure - but it looks like a possible video issue. Make sure your video card is supported and configured (?) properly through VM. Might want to try to boot up using the SUSE -Live CD/DVD and not install anything to the hard drive. If that works then the install to a Hard drive (or VM) should work.
Good luck

Yes but he is trying 9.1 AFAIK there was no Live-CD for that version.

there is no live CD for that version and NO SUPPORT for that version
either…

Hi,

Just click on that link when page open just scroll down ther u will find a link name Save file to your PC: click here

Thanks

now that i have (finally) had the chance to look at the document
containing a jpg:

it appears to me to be a VMware set up issue (or else why would you
see four screens at once) and as someone mentioned a video issue,
else it would present the slick GUI installer…

i do not think the problem is with SuSE 9.1, but rather with the VM
setup…

on the other hand, it should be possible to install it using the
curses text based YaST, which i can see was in the process of
initialization when that screenshot was taken…

that process might take several minutes, especially if you didn’t
allocate enough RAM to the VM…

despite that, i still suggest you try a live CD from any of the more
modern distributions…if you just wanna “learn Linux” most any will
do because under-the-hood they are pretty much the same…kind’a!

BTW that web site is just chuck full of spyware and other malware. I’d stay away from it if you are running windows.

i last ran windows on a machine i own in 1995…
i even bought a machine in (about) '97 and booted it one time to
Redmond and then formatted it to a full, clean HPFS…

Just a heads up on VMWare hosting a Suse installation. If you read the instructions provided by VMware they recommend using the text mode installation. Now I managed to get it running with the graphical installer, but that was Suse 11.2.

Thanks for your support

would anyone actually do that?

nah!

that would take away all the fun and suspense out of the quest!

the more different ways one elects to try, the more often it is broken…

and, then comes the suspense of “Will I fix it or have to reinstall,
or quit?”

all the while dragging others into the fray by making long threads
going over the same self-induced “problems” dozens of other
non-reading players who have gone before…

nah, reading instructions messes up the whole game for everyone!

funny thing is, it seems that non-readers are also non-searchers…
