I have an Bluetooth 5.0 USB Receiver which works fine.
I want to buy a new Bluetooth receiver with support for Bluetooth 5.3 or 5.4
How is the support for these new Bluetooth version on OpenSUSE Leap 15.6?
I am planning on upgrade my Leap to 16 perhaps before the new year.
Linux has support for Bluetooth 5.3, with compatibility achieved in Linux kernel versions 5.19+ and BlueZ 5.65+ (2022).
One source says support can be inconsistent depending on the specific hardware, and some newer chipsets may require a newer kernel than what is available in the distribution.
For Bluetooth it should be safe bet to get any USB Bluetooth receiver that has Realtek RTL8761BW chipset.
Bluetooth 5.4 features are supported in the Linux kernel starting with version 6.3 (released April 2023), with further enhancements in 6.6 and 6.7. Users need BlueZ 5.70+ for full stack compatibility.
Since OpenSUSE Leap 15.6 has Kernel 6.4.0 and BlueZ 5.71 it should be safe to get any Bluetooth 5.4 USB Dongle?
However one source says:
Linux has preliminary support for Bluetooth 5.4
Since I am already upgrading now, it thought it best to get the latest BT version 5.4
I found a USB BT 5.4 dongle that has ATS2851 Chipset. This is a Chinese chipset.
I read from someone who bought a USB dongle from the brand NÖRDIC with this chipset, and they mentioned they got a weird Chinese instruction during installation.
In these days with concerns about China, I am unsure if I am going with this Chipset.
I was thinking maybe get the Trust Myna Bluetooth 5.4 Adapter, but they do not mention which chipset they use.
