Suddenly no internet connection...

Hello,

well, like the title says, I’ve suddenly got no internet connection for no obvious reason. I work with 11.1, my computer is connected to a DSL-router (T-com Speedport W 701V) via LAN (not wireless). I’ve already tried everything I know of - unplugged the computer and the LAN wire, checked the DHCP configuration, but nothing works!
The other computer that is connected to the router has internet, and the LAN wire is intact, too.
The only thing I can think of is that recently I tried to connect my 2nd OS, Win-Vista, to internet too, but that didn’t work. Normally Vista and Linux shouldn’t be able to interact with each other, but who knows? Oh, but even after that, I could use internet on Linux, so… well, there really isn’t a reason for me. :sarcastic:
So, please help me and give me some advice as to what I can do now.
I’m not very skilled with the complex Linux stuff, only the basics, so I’d be really glad if you would speak in for-dummies-mode, if that’s possible.

The fact that you disconnected/connected the ethernet cable to the router lets me think that you not only have no Internet access, but that you also doubt if you have LAN access and thus not network at all.

Is that true? In other words can you not ping your router?

The output of:

ifconfig -a

and:

netstat -r

May also be of help to us.

Ok, now I have restarted the NetworkManager, and now I can connect to the internet again. Well, I still have no clue why, but at least it works. Next time, I’ll remember to consult Yelp before posting, sorry. ><
I don’t know what “ping your router” means, but thanks anyway.

Thanks for posting back. Glad it works. Next time we will learn you how to ‘ping’
