Stuck in a Problem Loop when Trying to Update to Tumbleweed Snapshot 20251013

Either #3 and/or #10 could be causing conflicts. Try disabling them before trying dup again. Locks can do it too. Why do you have any locks, and what are they?

This time it is not related to external repos. It is reproducible with official repos only.

Qt 6.10 landed in factory, but it seems that not all packages got updated yet.

BUT (big BUT): the TO has package locks in place which result in the issue shown in the terminal output. Some (many) of the issues are caused by the package locks. Additionally to the locks, the TO decided to choose the wrong solution. Instead of removing the uneccessary locks he keeps the obsolete packages or decides to remove half of the Plasma desktop…

Self inflicted shot in the knee…
Don’t apply package locks if you don’t know how to deal with the consequences.

@ExesCarnival0891 remove the package locks and upgrade your system again. Only a few package issues will remain.

List your package locks
zypper ll
Remove the package locks
zypper rl ....

See man zypperfor help regarding the locks. Or Use Myrlyn to remove them graphically.

fcitx is archived:

Use fcitx5, it’s actively maintained.

Hi,
I had the same issue on my Tumbleweed with the libQt6DBus6.
I did a manual update for some packages and still the same issue.
I removed a lock (tip from partner here in the comments) I had for xf86-video-vmware which broke my desktop some time ago.
Then decided to do a ā€˜zypper up’. That worked.
Rebooted and did a ā€˜zypper dup’. That worked also.

Unless I should be putting something after zypper ll, I appear to not have any package locks?

zypper ll
There are no package locks defined.

Looked around Myrlyn too, none of the packages appeared to have any locks. I only seem to have locks on some packages when I do a distribution update. I’ll try to remove locks during the upgrade process tomorrow night in my time. The only reason why later is because I have more free time to fix and troubleshoot in case I mess something up.

requires 'libQt6Gui.so.6(Qt_6.10.0_PRIVATE_API)(64bit)

AFAICS this is the root of the problem: They used private parts of Qt 6. This is very much discouraged.

What you can do about this is one of:

  • uninstall the fcitx-qt6 package and everything that depends on it
  • wait until the problem fixes itself with the fcitx_qt6 package that is built with the newer libQt

The only place I know of where locks are defined is the file /etc/zypp/locks. If you have no such file, I can’t imagine why zypper would be providing remove lock as a resolution option for any package. This I would deem a bug worthy of a report as opportunity permits.

Nope. It is no bug. The terminal output was kind of misleading. The TO decided to chose solution 1 for the first issue: ā€œkeep obsolete packagesā€. This in turn leads to the output that these obsolete packages are locked.

As pointed out already by others, the solution for the first question should be to remove fcitx-qt6 (solution 4). After that, nearly zero issues should be shown as the unmaintained package got deleted.

Thanks for this information. This solved my problem. I just installed fcitx5 via zypper and then I only had to select the options in zypper to remove the old fcitx packages while installing the new fcitx5. After that I could normally dup vial zypper without any conflicts.

Thanks this helped. Everything seemed to be working, though strangely enough my Nvidia GPU isn’t being recognized, or has not wake up yet. The drivers are there, but running nvidia-smi shows that it may not be running at all?

I’ll mark this as solved though. since the original issue was fixed. I’m only bringing this additional problem up since: 1. I a similar issue with my Nvidia card happened before and I just waited for an update to fix it, and 2. I don’t want to keep flooding the forum with more seperate issues.
