stops booting at 'setting up the cmos clock'

I have been using the suselinux 10.0 64 bit os and never had a problem until today when it stops booting at ‘setting up the cmos clock’. The only adjustment I made to it before this happened was to adjust the screen contrast using the utility in the kde system settings menu. I also have suse linux 10.0 32 bit in another partition and it boots fine. Can I use the rescue function on the install cd to fix this issue?
