I just reinstalled openSUSE 11.3 KDE 4.5, and my mouse pointer keeps auto-clicking. It’s weird because it is not even happening 100% of the time, just most of the time. I am using a touchpad, and I have disabled tapping.
I had this exact same issue with Kubuntu 10.10 yesterday before I removed it. I am currently on Windows 7 and all seems well, so it is probably is a Linux software issue.
To me it looks like a hardware issue. Are you able to disable the touchpad in the laptop BIOS and plug in a external USB mouse and see whether you are still having problems with auto clicking?

agree! if it happens on openSUSE, Ubuntu and Win7 it just about has to
be hardware problem…
maybe a intermittent ground fault or corroded contact point…
hope your laptop is still in warranty…check with HP about
repair/replacement…or visit their forum and see if there is a
history of this problem on that laptop…maybe someone can tell you
how to fix it…
let us know what happens…

When I use a mouse nothing happens with my mouse pointer. I narrowed it down to my touchpad’s left button. When I place my finger on it, it causes a click action even when the button is not pressed down. I am assuming something is stuck underneath the button.
Thankfully nothing major! Thanks everyone for the help.
