First of all, I’m new to openSUSE, I was previously an ubuntu user, but decided to try out openSUSE and loved it. It’s great.
It works fine on my laptop, which is 64-bit. However, on an old desktop computer which is 32-bit, the start up sometimes freezes. I looked at the output from the start up, and it froze on either of these 3:
Go into yast, start the software manager. Make sure smartmontools is installed. Then go the partitioner. Hit yes to continue despite the warning. Click hard disks on the far left to drop down the list of devices, and choose the one in question. Go to the overview tab. Click Health Test (SMART). Does it pass the test? If so, then it might be a software/kernel issue and not hardware. You might want to check this command in the terminal for errors:
I tested the disk as you said, and the test passed. I tried looking at the errors, but wasn’t sure at what point I turned on and off the computer, so couldn’t tell what exactly is causing it.
What’s the videocard in the old machine? You may need a driver for it. Another thing could be desktop effects it isn’t able to handle. Switch those off, if on KDE.
