ssh connection refused

I have the following set up:

Server1 opensuse 10.3 running as a mail/web server with a fixed IP xxx.xxx.xxx.163
Server2 opensuse 11.3 newly installed with basic server configuration, also with a fixed IP xxx.xxx.xxx.165

Both of these servers are connected directly to the router supplied by my ISP, and both of these IPs are public IPs.
I also have a number of other desktop PCs in the LAN.

I can browser the web pages on Server1 from any PC in the LAN. I can also connect to Server1 using ssh.

My problem is that:

  1. From any PCs in the LAN, I cannot browse the web pages on Server2, neither connect using ssh .
  2. From Server1, I also cannot connect to Server2 using ssh nor browse the web page.
  3. On the other hand, from Server2, I can connect to Server1 with ssh.
  4. I can connect to Server2 (with ssh or web) from outside my ISP router.

I have checked my ISP router that no firewall is enable and no ports are blocked.

I guess the problem is in Server2. Can anyone give me some idea on what I did wrong with Server2 and how to find the problem?

Check this
SDB:Configure openSSH - openSUSE

There were some changes, particularly in the section
SDB:Configure openSSH - openSUSE

If you have kde UI, can you try:

fish://

Hash: SHA1

I’d compare the netmask and default route settings for server1 and
server2. Do so with the following command:

ip addr
ip route

If you see differences, especially in the netmask on server2 so that it is
different from other systems on your network, that would make sense to me
when it comes to describing your symptoms.

Good luck.

You checked the firewall in the route, but what about the firewall in Sever2?

Thank you for all your replies.
As your suggested, I’ve checked the ip addr and ip addr. Both servers report the same config except its own ip. No firewall is enable in Server2. I’m still very puzzled. :frowning:

Get debug output from a working and non-working system and post it here.

ssh -vvv user@remoteMachine

Good luck.

Can each machine ping the other?

Is sshd running on each of them?
