yep…but it was ‘taken care of’ within minutes of it arriving…

someone (a mod) killed them on the web side, but my understanding it
is a rather involved process for them to pull posts from the nntp
side, so they often just stay…forever…

what i do, when i see a spam over here is go to the web side, see if
it exists there (most often it is already removed there by the time i
arrive), and if it is still there i log in and use the ‘report’
feature on the web side to bring it to the mod’s attention…

That was a definite “drive by shooting” !

Indeed, I was on coffee break at work, and I just happened to take a look at the forum, and I saw the dozen or more posts and so then I then did my best to delete them. Its not often we are able to react that fast (and this week some of our mods/admins are away) but in this case the timing was good (for deletion) on the web side. However since it was NNTP based (and not web based) I needed one of our NNTP mods to go after the NNTP side (ie delete) and also block the user on the NNTP side.

It needs one of our mods or admins who knows the NNTP side. I don’t, so I just cleared the web side.

Looked like it was all cleaned up earlier today - if you see it in a
particular group, let me know and I’ll double-check.

ones i can’t read!)

Looks like they did a good job - not pulled here when I just checked for the
first time today.

I see the same post on several NNTP groups. I don’t know if the post was deleted on the NNTP side,
because as I use leafnode it might be stored for ever in my side.

Let me see… I also have “pan” configured to connect directy to forums.opensuse.org - but it can
not connect :-? [Da*m it! Router was down. Power cycling.] Pan connects. Ok, the offending posts
are no longer in the NNTP server.

It worries me that they might have discovered a way of entry.

It was, so you probably caught it in the short interval they were present.

No moreso than any user who accesses via NNTP is able to post lots of
messages in a short period of time when using an offline reader. Nothing
to worry about here, that’s why we have the tools we have to do mass
deletions when something like this happens.

no discovery required…just point and shoot (no ID/Pass required).
