Sound Blaster Z SE Creative HDA Sound card

Hello,

I have been trying to sort out getting my sound card working and haven’t been having luck. Using pulseaudio. I have used alsamixer, sound settings in KDE, and I configured the sound card in YaST. After I configured the card, when I select it and specify an audio output format, the card output disappears from Sound Settings. Here is a video I recorded demonstrating the issue:

https://youtu.be/nC-MdzaYezc

After exiting the configuration of the sound card, you can see by the applet in the lower right indicates there is no longer any sound output, though sound was working while I had the configurator open and had the sound card output selected.

After this, I rebooted the PC and the sound card output still doesn’t appear, but the sound card input does appear. I connect to the sound card through a DAC (Astro A50 Wireless Generation 1) but I don’t use it wirelessly. I connect my headset to the Astro DAC via mini-USB, the Astro DAC is connected to my PC via USB and via S/PDIF optical cable to the sound card. I’m able to get stereo sound to my headset through the Astro DAC since it’s connected via USB to the PC, but there isn’t surround sound support by just using the Astro DAC. What should be happening is that I pass 5.1 surround sound from the sound card to the Astro DAC and from the Astro DAC to the headset. All three are 5.1 surround sound capable.

Here is a screenshot of my sound settings post reboot:

I can post a hardinfo report if needed. Maybe it’s not possible for this to work in a linux OS.

Headset has 2 inputs: USB and optical.
If you want to troubleshoot Sound Blaster Sound card, use simple headphones, and disconnect Astro A50 Wireless Headset.

System may now work properly with this setting. There is no need for Audio group here.
