Software update offline

Hello, it is a day that the software update is saying that the system is offline and the network is disconnected and that no updates before always gave sign of new updates.
How do I fix and updade software back to work as before?
OpenSuse, Leap, KDE
Thank you.

I managed to solve. The problem was that the system started and gave me no administrator privileges and so I think that influenced the use of the software update. I did two things:

  1. network settings I enabled the network to all users
  2. In system settings, I went accounts and I enabled the admin option on my profile.
  3. I closed the session and Entri with my account and password.

From your second post in this thread, I am inferring that:

  • you are using KDE (Plasma 5)
  • you are using NetworkManager for the network (the computer is probably a laptop).

It’s generally a good idea to tell us what desktop you are using, And, if the network is involved in your problem, to tell us whether you are using NetworkManager. It is easier to provide help when we know a little about what you are doing.

The network change that you made (to share with all users), is probably what fixed the problem. Making yourself an admin probably didn’t do anything. I think that adds you to the “wheel” group in “/etc/group”, but opensuse isn’t really using that for anything important.

I’m using a notebook. And the network is wifi. And I believe that the solution was to allow everyone to access the internet.
I’ve solved the problem. Who have the same problem you can try this solution.
Thank you.

If you want to do a rollback of the update, you can use Snapper. Snapper creates snapshots of update changes and you can use it for rollbacks.

But, only if the file-system is Btrfs.

Usually only needed for the physical Ethernet interfaces.
WLAN interfaces are usually managed from the user accounts in conjunction with a Password Manager (e.g. KDE: KWallet).

  • Also means that the ‘root’ user on a Laptop can never set-up a WLAN connection from a GUI.

  • (Not a big deal because KDE Plasma 5 and SDDM do not offer sessions for the ‘root’ user.)

Not needed for the current Leap 42.1 Package Manager.

There were problems with Leap 42.1 / KDE Plasma 5 / Network Manager:

Assuming that the WLAN is connected, the “always works” fix is to issue the following CLI command in a normal user’s Terminal: “> pkcon get-updates”
With an actual Leap 42.1 system this is not usually needed . . .
I’ve also noticed that, if the Laptop is booted with “battery only” then, assuming that a network connection is active (WLAN or Ethernet), when the power (battery recharge) cable is plugged in the update search begins automatically . . .

Or, is this your “real” problem?

  • Currently, the Leap 42.1 update search automatically begins if and only if the machine is connected to an electrical power source which is not
    a battery . . .

The TO wrote about a problem based on Leap. It sounds like he has installed the system not a very long time ago. Btrfs is part of the standard setup.
That’s the reason why I gave the hint.
