Slowroll usb stick boot but error ../../grub-core/kern/mm.c:grub_memalign:508:out of memory

I tried to download and install slowroll following the suggestion here:

downloaded and checked file checksum, created usb stick with suse studio imagewriter, it booted, click on installation, but get this error (written by me)

../../grub-core/kern/mm.c:grub_memalign:508:out of memory

Press any key to continue...

after a tenth of seconds it continue and stop at: (written by me)

Kernel Offset: 0x3b0000... from 0xffff.... (relocation range: 0xffff...

and after few minutes reboot

the files are these
openSUSE-Slowroll-DVD-x86_64-Build69.2-Media.iso
openSUSE-Slowroll-DVD-x86_64-Build69.2-Media.iso.sha256
openSUSE-Slowroll-DVD-x86_64-Media.iso
openSUSE-Slowroll-DVD-x86_64-Media.iso.sha256
I tried both but seems the same becouse have the same checksum

how can I get a working slowroll usb stick?

https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1267836

so I get that I have to wait the solution of this bug?

@pier_andreit looks like it’s a hardware issue, update BIOS, turn off tpm etc…

uh, update bios seems dangerous, how to turn off tpm?

but why agama installer worked and slowroll not? this lead me to think tha the problem is the software not the hardware, or not?

Hardware can adversly affect how software works (not). Read the bug-report.

I get BIOS and other updates here by fwupd, all good on Dell and HP… had one for my workstation a few days ago.

All depends on your hardware and the tools provided.

Same here on Lenovo ( ThinkPad + IdeaPad ).

@pier_andreit BIOS = Basic Input Output System . It is a “baked in” software layer that makes the hardware usable by an Operating System. BIOS sort of translates signals ( commands, results ) of/towards the OS to the appropriate electrical signals to/from the individual hardware components connected on the motherboard. Consider BIOS as lowest level software. Please, do yourself a favor and read this: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/BIOS

Also: Please reconsider how you do your searches / AI prompts. Don’t ask “Is updating my BIOS dangerous?”, but ask “How can I safely update my BIOS on my ?”. The first search will look for confirmation that it can be dangerous, the latter for methods to safely do so.

my hw is laptop CLEVO L141AU, and what about turn off tpm?

You need to look in the BIOS and disable there, perhaps it is only TPM 1.2 rather than TPM 2.0, again there may be an update for that from the manufacturers support web site.

There’s your hint … do a Google search for:

“CLEVO L141AU turn off tpm”

Or read the manual for the laptop.

from this commands bios is:

pla@plaST-slowroll:~> sudo dmidecode -s bios-version
1.07.06
pla@plaST-slowroll:~>
==================================

pla@plaST-slowroll:~> sudo dmidecode -s bios-vendor
INSYDE Corp.
pla@plaST-slowroll:~>
========================

pla@plaST-slowroll:~> sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
06/08/2023
pla@plaST-slowroll:~>
==========================

pla@plaST-slowroll:~> sudo dmidecode -s bios-revision
7.6
pla@plaST-slowroll:~>
=========================

pla@plaST-slowroll:~> sudo dmidecode -s firmware-revision
7.4
pla@plaST-slowroll:~>
=====================

and from clevo site it says:

VGA 1.Update control center AP 6.032,BIOS 1.07.06 (Secure BIOS CCD) CC60_0725.zip
172463 2023/7/26

so I get there isn’t update to apply, correct?

also for tpm it seems 2.0

pla@plaST-slowroll:~> sudo tpm2_getcap properties-fixed
[sudo] password for root:
TPM2_PT_FAMILY_INDICATOR:
  raw: 0x322E3000
  value: "2.0"

I will see if disabling in the bios it works

Yes, no update… :frowning_face:
