Skype for OpenSUSE 12.1

Good Day

Am not much of a linux savvy, but am trying out OpenSUSE for transition from windows to linux
I’ve dual boot window 7 and OpenSUSE 12.1 on my pc.

I want to install skype on OpenSUSE, unfortunately it requires “libgc44” which is on OpenSUSE 11.4
so I’ve installed it, unfortunately when I finished installing it, then try to install skype
it shows a lot of stuff to downgrade

I dont know how to deal with it

can you please help me install skype on OpenSUSE 12.1

Many Thanks to all

and Long Live Linux!!!

-=WELCOME=- new poster, and new Linux user…

as you have already discovered there is lots different here…scrap up
lots of patience and you will make it…but FREE software doesn’t
normally mean FREE from learning, reading, thinking…etc…

so, the how-to-install Skype is here: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Skype

it does not include installing anything from openSUSE 11.4, i suppose
you did what you normally did with that other system: go to the builder
of whatever you are looking for, download and follow their
instructions…normal, but not for openSUSE or any Linux…as much as
you can stick to the openSUSE repos and openSUSE how-tos…

suggest you undo that and start over using the above URL…and the
zypper commands you need to use…WAIT, i don’t think you need to undo
what you did with the 11.4, i think the zypper will take care of it
(replace it with a newer, if there is such)

if you don’t know zypper have a look here:
http://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/html/openSUSE/opensuse-reference/cha.sw_cl.html

it is slick…but, i usually use YaST Software Management…[usually
there are several ways to do most anything]

and, ask questions before you murder your system (lock guns in the
closet, etc)
