Skype 2.1.0.81 & SUSE 11.2

Per a request that i (we - there are others with these problems – see “open SUSE 11.2 Skype action could not be completed”) start a new thread - here it is.

refresher - I’m running 11.2 on a HP-dv7-3057nr machine with an AMD 64 duel core 2.2 GHz processor and 4096 Gb of memory. I installed Skype v 2.1.0.47 and it runs fine until I try to make a video call. Then it crashes with no error messages.

I’ve tried to upgrade to 2.1.0.81 through webpin and get repository errors.

Someone ask for the output from zypper lr -d, here it is:

Any help with either getting video calls working under 2.1.0.47 and/or installing 2.1.0.81 would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim

Be careful with adding repositories like that. When you do a OneClick Install there is a check box on the first screen that asks if you want it to remember the repository. This by default is checked. I would uncheck it.

Now I noticed that you don’t have the most current and up to date skype. software.opensuse.org: Search Results
It might also be good to add the python-Skype4Py. If skype is crashing, also check your qt. Last I knew, skype depended on 32 bit qt.

Thanks for the quick response. I followed the link above and the one click took me to utexas.edu for the download. I try to avoid them for anything download since they seem to discourage it (9 HOURS to download that small package).

Interestingly enough though the othe link provided took me to the repository that webpin can’t seem to resolve (I’m confused). I’m doing the download as I write this. I’ll keep you posted on the end results.

Dummy question - What’s “qt”??

All righty then – downloaded skype-2.1.0.81-3.1.x86_64 from home:matteotomasoni/openSUSE_11.2_Update (the “unresolved repository”) and opened it with the YaST installer. The install FAILED! When I clicked on “more details” it said “User abort”. The second screen’s “more detail” said "Unknown failure. Now I’m REALLY confused. I didn’t abort anything!!!

In principle I followed this Skype HOWTO - openSUSE and encountered no problem iinstalling 2.1.0.81. It runs without problemsa for at least amonth, but I do not use video.
